Nissan Race Cars of Days Gone By: Prologue

10 Jan

Since this blog began, I’ve done alot of posting about Porsche and their racing cars and history. I’ve never owned a Porsche, but I am a big fan, and certain 911’s are among the short list of ‘must haves’ as time and budget allow.

However, I’ve always been a Datsun/Nissan guy. I’ve had a Z car in one form or another since 1993. While Datsun/Nissan doesn’t have quite the history of Porsche, it has had some noteworthy cars of it’s own. So, I thought it would be cool to do a bit of an ongoing series for a few weeks exploring some of these cars in greater detail. It won’t be done in any particular order, so if anyone has any good info, pictures, video, your participation is strongly welcomed!

I have the Newman-Sharp 1988 300ZX Turbo that was the GT1 Champion in 1988. The car was known as the “peanut” car as it was sponsored by Planters Peanuts. It is completely restored except the body as it is still in great shape. In the day, this car did 205mph on the back straight at Road Atlanta and 197 on the front straight at Road America!

I would post some pics, but don’t see how to do it. THE CAR IS FOR SALE and ready to race
