Strosek widebody 928. While the car didn’t change all that much in the 167 years it was made, the 928 remains one of the iconic GT shapes. Still a head turner.

Bucket List Roads

10 Feb

Any gear head inevitably spends hours studying, ogling and dreaming up cars that they would love to own/drive if suddenly bank balance and desire were aligned. While it’s true that who you’re with is far more important than where you are, in the car enthusiast world, geography is an equally important part of the overall experience.

Since we are ensconced in 3 feet of snow here on Long Island, thoughts are automatically drifting towards warmer weather, and wringing the revs out along a coveted slice of pavement.

With those daydreams and the post we did the other night about Mulholland Drice, I thought it would be cool to do a series of posts about the worlds best driving roads. These can be stretches that are world famous (Tail of the Dragon, PCH, Stelvio Pass), or perhaps the long way home you enjoy after a long days work. Any submissions you have comment here or email and we will feature

As my car currently resides in an igloo created by a near-blind snowplow operator and Mother Nature herself, I’ve been watching old rally videos this morning. One of the best was Richard Burns, who sadly left the world way too early. Richard had a home in the tiny mountain country of Andorra, which sits between France and Spain. But what a great set of roads they have through the Pyrenees. Just check out this picture

Dennis Hopper and a Movie about Street Racing

7 Feb

Dennis Hopper was an iconic American actor who starred in such classics such as Apocalypse Now, Easy Rider, True Romance and many others. He also did a little known movie about a very well known street racing road called Mulholland Drive. This winding road runs above Los Angeles and has some of the most challenging turns and breathtaking views you’ve ever seen.

From the 50’s on, this road became very well known among enthusiasts as a terrific proving ground for the latest go-fast mods. Kids and adults alike would wrench on their cars during the day as meet late at night when traffic died down to run one another. This movie, starring Hopper and Harry Hamlin, is a snapshot of the SoCal street racing scene in the late 70’s. It’s a pretty typically budget movie of the era, but there are some worthwhile chase scenes nevertheless. A “Fast and Furious” 20 years early if you will.

Some cool overhead shots from this video of a Time Attack event from December in Malaysia. Suggestion to the editors – we don’t need 2 minutes of lounge music accompanying every car video. Let’s hear the cars! Use the music as background not foreground.
