Endless Brake tip: Pad fade vs. vapor lock

17 Aug

I just realized that I never posted this here and it is already a month old. Oh well, I still would like to post it even though it is old news.

Brakes not working as they should in demanding conditions? Here’s an easy way to tell whether it’s a problem with the brake pads or the brake fluid.

Pay attention to what the brake pedal feels like when experiencing brake problems. Then ask yourself this simple question; is the brake pedal alarmingly soft and spongey, or is it really stiff and unresponsive?

A soft pedal most often indicates that your brake fluid is boiling, also known as ‘vapor lock.’ When your brake fluid reaches a high enough temperature and boils the fluid, air bubbles form inside your brake lines. Since air is far more compressible than liquid, brake fluid in this case, pressing the brake pedal with air in the lines results in a soft, spongey feeling. You can temporarily solve the problem by bleeding your brakes to get the air bubbles out, although you can expect the problem to reoccur if left alone. A high performance brake fluid like our S-Four or RF-650 will increase the amount of heat it is able to withstand, often preventing the problem of vapor lock entirely. Although often overlooked, brake fluid is an integral part of your cars braking system, as when it is not upgraded, it is most often the first component to reach its limits.

A hard, unresponsive pedal most often indicates that the temperatures are exceeding the limits of the particular brake pad compound, also known as ‘pad fade.’ Certain compounds are meant to handle different temperature ranges, with some materials being capable of withstanding higher temperatures than others. If you experience brake pad fade while driving, it’s a good idea to stop and let the brake pads cool. Endless brake pads have excellent fade recovery, meaning that should you reach the limit of a particular compound, let them cool down to their optimal operating temperature range and the pads will return to normal function. The key, however, is to choose the correct brake pad compound for the type of driving you intend to do. We, at Endless USA, are always more than happy to help you in making the appropriate selection according to your particular setup and preferences.

From Endless USA:

PRESS RELEASE – ENDLESS PRODUCTS LAST, SAVE CONSUMERS MONEY

Huntington Beach, CA (July 31, 2009) – In a globally down economy, consumers are putting more care into the product choices they make. The dollars in their wallets must go further than they have before, and getting the most value from the dollars they spend is vital. With less disposable income available, they are more often seeking quality product that will last. Endless is proud to announce that these new recession-savvy consumers have found Endless products to be the best valued in the marketplace.

Endless has always had a name synonymous with quality, but the increase in new consumers trying Endless product has led to tremendous feedback regarding exceeded expectations in longevity and value. Consumers are finding that while they may be initially spending a small amount more for the brake pads or brake fluid, the pads and fluid last far longer than other brands they’ve used previously. Coupled with feedback reporting that the brake pads are far less abrasive to disc rotors, consumers are elated to find that they’re reducing their consumption and actually saving money by switching to Endless.

“We can choose any brake combination we want in IMSA/ALMS/ACO,” said Rick Mayer, Technical Director of American Le Mans team Risi Competizione. “Endless pads have significantly less wear then any pad we’ve used and are very gentle on the disks. We made the 12 hours of Sebring without a pad change where some of our Ferrari competitors didn’t. We can use a used pad at subsequent events without any concern about performance degradation. Our drivers like the good release and consistent friction level without any fading. We find them to be good consistent pads.”

“Sometimes it’s difficult for consumers to see the value in spending more for product that lasts longer,” said Dominic Chen, Executive Director of Endless USA. “But what we’ve been able to show is that our pads and fluid really do increase performance while reducing costs. Professional race teams and weekend track enthusiasts alike have all reported the same thing: with Endless they’ve won more races and saved more money.”

Shaun’s Build … another Update from the Body Shop

29 Jun

Just a few updated pics from the body shop this weekend.  The Amuse pieces are primed and everything is blocked and just about ready to go.  Rich asked me to come up this weekend to make some misc choices for the car.  One of the most important decisions that I had to make was the color … and it’s going to be, drum roll please … BMW’s Alpine White.

I think Kwame and Adam have talked me into a small simple sound system, too.  You guys are a bad influence, lol.

I’m done explaining why…

28 May

…we spend so much money on Endless products on our personal cars. Their stuff is top notch and since we don’t cut corners with our car builds here at Z1 what else should we be using? If you’re on the LIE in 2020 when my Z is done you better watch out, lol.

I swear if someone in the aftermarket world comes out with a quality Kinetic Energy Recovery System like the new Formula One cars use I will save up a ton of duckets for it. 🙂

Back to the point of this blog post… Endless products are quality and race proven. Congrats on the victories!

Endless Equipped Cars Dominate Motorsports Weekend
Huntington Beach, CA (May 28, 2009) – Endless equipped teams across the globe showed their dominance this past weekend of May 23rd and 24th. From World Rally Challenge to the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix to the Nurburgring 24 Hours, all teams clenching victory used Endless as an integral part of their brake package.
Italy was next on the WRC schedule and Ford occupied both the 1st and 2nd place steps on the podium. Ford’s rally cars use the ever popular Endless rally/sprint race brake pad compounds and Endless RF-650 brake fluid.
Brawn GP continued their dominance and further extended their lead in the Formula One championship by finishing one-two at the glamorous Monaco Grand Prix. Yet again Jensen Button and Rubens Barrichello drove their Brawns equipped with Endless RF-650 brake fluid straight to victory lane.
But perhaps the most success enjoyed by Endless and their supported teams was in the famous 24 Hour Endurance race at the Nurburgring. More than forty cars in the field used Endless product for the grueling race. It was a sizable presence of Endless equipped cars; including Mitsubishi Lancers, Nissan 350Zs, and Alpina BMWs. More impressive, however, were the overall 3rd place Manthey Racing Porsche GT3 Cup car, 2nd place ABT Audi R8 and 1st place Manthey Racing Porsche GT3 RSR, all running Endless brake pads and fluid.
“It was a phenomenal weekend for our global Endless group,” said Executive Director of Endless USA, Dominic Chen. “The product truly speaks for itself by means of race victories. We are extremely proud to be working with such high caliber, talented people.” Endless hopes to add another endurance race win when the Texas based Risi Competizione team heads to France in a few weeks time to defend their class victory from last years 24 Hours at Le Mans.

Endless Z34 @ TAS 2009

12 Jan

Signature Endless Blue Paint, Ings Z34 front spoiler, Bride seats and humongous brakes front and rear.

Come on Kent and Dom get your people to release that rotor pattern (for your non-monoblock BBKs 😉 )to the public already. There are idiots like me wanting to buy it for no good reason.

***Spoke to Dom today and these rotors (dubbed “e-slit”) have been available for their monoblock BBKs since January of 2008 (Yeah, seriously where the F have I been). They have recently begun producing these for OE sized applications as well.

The benefit of this rotor design is to increase modulation and reduce brake judder. I also found out the rear kit on this car is the brand new 4 piston monoblock setup that is new for ’09. The front kit is the 6 piston monoblock that has been out for some time now.***
