Why Your Oxygen Sensor Shouldn’t Be Ignored

9 Oct

If you’ve noticed your car performing inconsisently, can’t pass inspection due to poor emissions performance, with poor fuel economy, or running like a raped ape somedays, and like a 3 legged dog on others, it could be a faulty oxygen sensor. The 02 sensor is partially responsible for telling the ecu what to do and when. When they are new, 02 sensors relay accurate info very quickly to the ecu. When they age, or get contaminated, they act lazy, slowly relaying info, and performance and economy suffer as a result. We offer a full range of direct replacement 02 sensors from Bosch and Denso, 2 of the largest OEM suppliers in the automotive world. In fact Bosch invented the 02 sensor! These are plug and play, not some cheesy universal joint you’ve got to spend timing soldering in. Waterproof connections ensure years of reliable service. No sense paying the dealer more for the same part in a different box!

So why is it important to replace? As the sensors age, they get contaminated. Remember, these sensors sit right in the catalytic converter and the exhaust pipes, so they are forced to live in a dirty, nasty environment. As time goes on, contaminents build on the sensor itself, and it’s no longer able to react with the speed that modern ecu’s demand. These contaminants also can cause false readings to the ecu, causing the car to run significantly richer, or leaner, than it should. This can have systemic results in other areas of the car. Not only will you get poor performance and poor fuel economy, overly rich conditions can clog cats and cause injectors to stick open. Overly lean conditions can wreak havoc on your internals causing knock, as well as potential piston damage.

If you run race gas, methanol or alcohol injection, this can also cause premature 02 sensor failure. Thankfully, these sensors are affordable, and very easy to replace yourself

Understated

14 Jun

This model never made it stateside, but back in the late 90’s, Subaru was offering their answer to the 5 series with the Legacy B4 RSK. 2 liter, twin turbo flat 4, 5 speed manual transmission, “280 hp” per the Japanese guidelines of the time. The interior was nowhere near at the 5 series level, and looks even more dated today, but the exterior doesn’t look like a 13 year old car to me.

Tochigi Prefecture Highway Patrol Vehicles

13 Jan

Can you really go wrong with any of them?

I saw someone make mention on my350z.com about Jay Bryan posting on the Tochigi Prefecture’s NISMO Z33 back in December of ’07 on his old “Dropjay” blog but he has since taken it down so I do not know how much of this material is repetitive.

I apologize if it’s redundant but this is the first time I’ve seen real pictures of these vehicles.

New Prova Steering Wheels for 2008 + Subaru’s

18 Nov

These have been out for a couple months now, but it’s new to us and I figured most people are not yet aware of them!

These wheels were done as a joint venture between Prova Japan and DAMD, one of Japan’s most respected aftermarket manufacturers. They teamed up to offer steering wheel replacements that are remarkable improvements vs the stock units!

These are offered in 2 types – one with a flat, or D shaped bottom, and the other that is round. Both wheels measure 358mm (stock is 375mm), which while smaller than stock, remains comfortable and functional for daily use. These are trimmed in suede and alcantera. Both have red stitching, and feature an embossed Prova logo, letting everyone know they are the real deal! The best part is, your factory airbag assembly, and all steering wheel controls fit right back in place with zero modifications!

Why don’t we get cool cars?

2 Oct

I’ve been looking to either replace my daily driver, or add a 3rd/winter car to the stable for a possible upcoming relocation.  I was looking around unsuccessfully until found this beast, The Subaru Legacy STI  S402, unfortunately I’m still looking as it’s a JDM model only.  I’ve always been a big fan of the Legacy and this is a Legacy on steroids.  Big Brembo brakes, BBS wheels, wider fenders, upgraded suspension, more power, all of the usual STI treatments.
