F1 Uncut

12 Feb

Saw this on several other blogs, but worthy of posting…it will make you laugh if you’re aware of what this season has in store

Legends of the Euro Motorway

Some pics of the cars on display. Some rare machines inside!

The event was pretty much organized by marque. It’s a huge propery so enty of room to walk around and get a food look at the cars. Great place for an event.

Pair of 500E’s. A true sleeper.

Onto the Porsche’s

This first one is a very rare car. 911 ClubSport in a gorgeous dark blue. Only 5k original miles.

Right next to it was one of the few RS America’s on display. Another rare version of the venerable 911. A factory lightweight intended to go racing.

Couple spots away was this stripped out 911 that was labelled as a prototype. Will have to do some digging on what it is as I’m not quite sure

20120923-153325.jpg

A few spots away was this 911 Sport Classic. With more than a few styling nods to the 2.7RS

911 Speedster

20120923-153546.jpg

The lone 928 at the event. This one is an ’87 S4. Still a head turner

968 was the only one of its kind there as well. This came in between the 944 and the Boxster in Porshe’s entry level lineup. Short lived run but a great looking car

Next up were the BMW’s

Seems the E30 is a very popular platform even today. And values keep going north. Many have 6 cylinder swaps from later M’s, some retained the original 4 banger.

Wish I could have gotten a good shot of the car this seat belongs to. It was stunning with bright red paint, S54 swap, and the ubiquitous LM’s

Levity

I wish the import guys could organize something similar out here instead of the obnoxious club music, import ehem-“model”, gaudy = trophy affairs that usually are out on this coast.

Not sure what it is about those big body Benz’s, but these have always looked good to me. This one in particular could easily have made an appearance in a Miami Vice episode back in the day. Love the blacked out trim, but non tinted windows.

One More Day at the Spa

26 Aug

Figured you guys would like this too.

From my own personal favorite era of road racing – the Group C era. One of these days I’ll do a compilation outlining some of the technology used in this phase of motorsport. It was essentially where modern technology that we would recognize today converged with the wild west mentality of motor racing in the 50’s and 60’s. The cars were insanely powerful (800+hp), extremely lightweight (1760 lbs minimum weight)blazingly fast (240+ mph), and threading the needle between sane and safe.

Pebble Beach 2011 – The Quail

20 Aug

Every year in August, the who’s who and what’s what in the collector car scene converge in Pebble Beach, CA. The mission for man and machine is simple – to see and be seen. I’ve never been lucky enough to go, but hope to one of these years. In the meantime, here is further reminder that even though the world economy is still in a tailspin, the upper class still know how to show off in all the right ways. It’s amazing to me how 40-50 years on, some of the cars look so beautiful. Timeless design never goes out of style. Makes me wonder 2 things. First, what must it have been like for a young gearhead in their teens to see their first 250GT, or 911, or SL? And second, what cars of today will retain that iconic class 50-60 years from now? Modern classics are harder to define in many ways, as they are built in far greater numbers than some of the cars shown here.

Road Presence

25 Apr

Uh…yeah, just a wee bit! For sale over at Bingo Sports. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

The CLK GTR. One of AMG/Mercedes most amazing creations. This car was designed and built for one purpose – to race. The car was homologized for road use in extremely limited #’s (25 total), and it dominated the FIA GT Championship. I’m sure alot of you guys have seen the infamous videos of the race going versions flipping at LeMans in ’99 (twice!). Here was one of the crashes

And a neat mini-documentary on the development of this amazing machine
