Clone Wars

9 Jan

Browsing around the net over the weekend, I was amazed at the number of people who have chosen to invest in their existing used car vs buying something brand new, and even more amazed at some of the values out there. In the Porsche world, clone cars have been all the rage for quite some time. If you’re an avid reader of the blog, you know that we routinely post rate versions of great Porsche’s. There are so many factory gems Porsche has done over the years it’s sometimes hard to remember them all. But since the platforms all start out as whatever the current iteration of the 911 was at the time, it can represent a great chance for an enthusiast to build their own vs trying to seek out an elusive, original version. There are some awesome second hand cars for sale out there, especially for performance and luxury enthusiasts. Now is a great time to take advantage the depreciation that has hit the market and score a bargain.

One that caught my eye was this 993 RS clone. It appears to have been done to a higher standard, using lots of factory original Porsche parts. Since the work has been done and the car already depreciated, it could be a good value for someone who wants to buy a completed project, vs embarking on their own.

Porsche @ Goodwood

21 Jun

Every year the Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place in the UK at the end of June. It takes place on one of Englands most famed estates and features an eclectic mix of people and cars from around the world. This years theme revolves around “Racing Revolutions – Quantum Leaps that Shaped Motorsport”. Porsche is no stranger to that, and as such, will bring several unique models from their racing history. One such iconic car is the 961, the LeMans going version of the iconic 959 car originally developed for the Paris Dakar Rally. Motorsport has always been a proving ground for top tier manufacturers, and Porsche used this race to continue development of their twin turbo, flat six engine. It finished 7th overall, as well as winning it’s class. Not too shabby. If any of you guys are going to this years festival, let us know – would love to feature some of your pictures and impressions, to be shared with those of us not fortunate enough to be there.

Another UK Zed

12 Nov

One of our customers in the UK posted up some pics of his Z the other day, after having an Uprev Osirus Reflash done. A nice blend of parts, so I figured I’d post it up. The UK guys are as much into their mods as we are over here!

Chargespeed front/rear bumpers, and the awesome INGS Spoiler. I may have to cop one of these for myself. Kwame already has one on lockdown for his car. It’s been my favorite since day 1 too. I just wonder if my current Balsarini spoiler will come off !

He’s also got a very nice HKS Camp installed that we sent him over the summer. Looks so clean when done on a separate screen.

Great looking car Mark, keep it up!

Something Wicked This Way Comes

5 Sep

I know, I know, alot of customer car entries lately and not alot of tech-babble – I promise tomorrow we’ll get another installment of the ITB discussion going!

For now though, feast your eyes on this machine.  As with the previous Z, this car is owned by another UK customer of ours, and one of the nicest guys I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with.  I met Jay through our sponsorship on www.350z-uk.com.  He had just sold his previous Z, and was in process of purchasing this Kuro Black GT.  He had big plans, big aspirations and was a great customer to work with.  We bounced lots of suggestions off one another and the final result is what you see here.  I think it speaks for itself.  The most striking thing on the car is of course, the Veilside V3 Aero kit.  Everyone who sees it on this particular car said the same thing “ya know, I usually don’t like that kit, but it looks great on your car” – and they are right I think!  While it might be over the top for some, Jay’s car is clean enough that it all just works!  Although the car has been sold (my man’s getting an Aston! ), I think it shows that you can balance wild with tasteful.

Jay’s car will be in an upcoming issue of MaxPower (a UK mag), so check it out.  Also just want to throw out a quick hell, and thanks to Jay’s brother Danny – another Zed-head.   Thanks again guys!  Check out their company www.blitzsport.com.
