A New Boost Controller that Multitasks!!

Innovate SCG-1 Boost Controller with Integrated Wideband, Shift Light, and Datalogger

Innovate SCG-1 Boost Controller with Integrated Wideband, Shift Light, and Datalogger

If you have a turbo charged car, the 2 most important gauges you can install are a boost gauge and a wideband air fuel ratio gauge. In the past, this generally meant individual gauges stacked up on your a pillar, or on top of the dash. Let’s face it, that look went out even before the original Fast and Furious movie.

Innovate Motorsports came up with this thoughtful, intelligent solution. An all in one gauge that combines a powerful electronic boost controller with a wideband air fuel meter. It even includes an integrated shift light! Housed in a convenient 52mm (2 1/16″) body. The boost controller portion will control up to 44 psi (4 bar map), has programmable waste gate reference pressure threshold, has programmable solenoid duty cycle (with separate gain control function), and the best part, a user-programmable boost cut safety using Air/Fuel and Pressure as as data reference points!

The wideband portion is compatible with ALL fuel types, gives you the bility to calibrate O² sensor for maximum accuracy
has one configurable linear 0-5v analog output and gives you 4 channels of log-able data (MAP, RPM, A/F, WG duty)

New AME/Fatlace Wheels

6 Aug

Everything old is new again! Fatlace recently teamed up with AME Japan to resurrect 2 classic JDM style wheels while stepping up fitments to more modern levels.

First up is the FZero1, which comes in 15×8.5 and 15×9.5 sizes in both 4×114.3 and 4×100 bolt patterns with a very classic mesh spoke pattern. 15×8.5 4×114.3 features offsets of -6 or +15. 15×9.5 with 4×114.3 features offsets of 0 and +15. 15×8.5 and 15×9.5 in 4×100 bolt pattern both feature offsets +16 or +25. All sizes and offsets feature a 2 inch lip. They are available in a Nickle finish or Asphalt. Each wheel includes metal valvestems and stylish center caps, adding a very upscale touch despite their low price.

Cusco Roll Bars Explained

29 Apr

There seems to forever be a debate about Cusco roll bars and cages. They are often used in Japan, and as such, customers here want them for that reason alone. Secondly, they have a tremendously broad range of applications, so one is available for a ton of different cars. However, what many people don’t realize, is there are more than 1 type of roll bars and cages. Each has a specific purpose, a specific construction. With this entry, I hope to clear up some of the confusion, so people understand each one in a clearer way.

First up, you have the often-seen “Blue” rollbar and/or cage. This is called their D1 Spec. As you may have guessed, it is named as such because they are legal for use in the D1 Drift events. Granted, they are offered for a wide array of cars, and many of these cars will likely never drift. But this is what their design, manufacturing, material selection and mounting is geared towards. They also can be ordered in many other colors besides blue, but of course, for this part, that is the signature color. These are made of 40mm diameter chromoly, they bolt in, and are offered in 4 point through 8 point mounting.

Next up, are the Safety21 line of roll bars and cages. These differ significantly from the blue D1 spec units, in that they are made of 40mm cold drawn seamless carbon steel. They are available in 4-14 point in both bolt in and weld in mounting. The Safete21 units are used in Cusco’s GT300 efforts as well as in many of their club level rally cars. Some have FIA approval, depending on the number of points, and the application. These generally come finished in black, though again, custom colors are available. They have larger mounting and reinforcement plates vs the D1 spec units as well.

Lastly, you have Cusco’s ASN-FIA Spec cages. These are full Regulation J spec cages, weld in only, and used in WRC as well as GT class racing.

The Harder Rocking Pantera

2 Apr

aprspoilerpantera1

Designed by an American, built in Italy, powered by good old USDM iron – the De Tomaso Pantera was always a bit of an anomaly of the sports car world. Only about 7200 were ever made, from its debut in 1972 till the final one rolled off the line in 1991.

Our customer contacted us with a unique request for his even more unique Pantera. His car has a host of very custom parts, including some carbon fiber components. To compliment this updated look, he wanted to update the aerodynamics as well. We spec’d out a custom made APR GTC-500 spoiler, with bespoke offset mounting brackets to allow it to custom blend with the rear hatch lines.

This isn’t some show queen though, as it has plenty of brute force under the Italian bodywork. A Roush Yates engine powers this redheaded stepchild. Future plans call for a custom carbon rear diffuser, which is already in the works, and a custom front carbon splitter as well.

New Tanabe OLED Gauges

18 Mar

vls-rear3_low

Tanabe has just released a new product, a series of gauges! They are of course known for their excellent exhaust, spring and coilover setups. The nice thing about these gauges is they are complete. They offer a wideband 02, oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature and of course, boost. Ranges on the gauges are awesome. Boost reads up to 45 psi and shows vacuum too. Temperature reads in Imperial measurement.

On Friday, from 1-3:30, the IMSA Websitewill have live streaming coverage of the Continental Sports Car Championship

For Saturday’s 12 Hour race, TV coverage is on Fox Sports1 (since Speed is now defunct…blech), but that’s only from 10am-1pm. All is not lost though, since coverage continues online at least from 1-10:30pm on IMSA’s Website

Motor Racing Network will also have their live radio stream going through the event too, and they broadcast on both terrestrial and satellite radio too. CLICK HERE FOR MRN’s LIVE STREAMCLICK HERE FOR RADIO STATIONS

Rough title, so what…

No, this video isn’t brand new. But for those who don’t have the time to stay up to date on all things Nissan, this is their entry for the 2014 LeMans race. All sorts of genuine JDM goodness in this car. This is the stuff to watch, because in 10 years, your Z car will probably have some of it’s DNA.

The song is ratchet and cheesy as hell, the car is anything but. The amazing Z belonging to a close friend and customer down south, basking in the final moments of sunlight at Barber Motorsport Park. Red Bull Hopes to Turn the Heat Down

16 Feb

redbulloverheatjerez2014B

Testing time in Jerez didn’t go too well for Red Bull. For all the design genius of Adrian Newey, the team broke out the drills a few weeks ago just to scallop out the body work in hopes the car would just cool down. Temperatures were at an average high of 58F degrees, and an average low of 43F – hardly hot. But the heat was on in the Red Bull kitchen as everyone packed up and left early, with hardly any laps completed. You know Newey has been burning the midnight oil these past few weeks, figuring out a way to either 1. somehow get a Ferrari engine in the back of his otherwise stellar creation, or 2. figure out how the heck to get this engine to stay within temperature limits this time around. Temperatures predicted in Bahrain over the next few days will average a very spring like 69-70 ish F, and a low not much lower. Beautiful weather over there this time of year.

Of course, there is one more test session scheduled in Bahrain, at the end of the month. That’s it, over and done with. Then the first race is mid March in Australia – where temperatures will likely be similar to what it is in Bahrain. So who’s running hotter right now? The Red Bull engine, or Newey himself? No doubt he’s under a tremendous amount of pressure. Afterall, their star drivers can’t do much if the car isn’t fully functional. With that said, there is no doubt that Newey is perhaps the greatest F1 engineer in the series history. He has a knack for applying his Hawking-esque brain to the world of racing. While I’m a Tifosi a heart, I’m rooting for Newey, and I think he will figure it out. We all know the season is long, and literally everything can happen. Particularly with the new engines, not to mention all the new rules for this year.

The SRT Viper GT3-R is collaboration between Chrysler Group’s

The SRT Viper GT3-R is collaboration between Chrysler Group’s

A dry sumped, 8.3 liter, pushrod’d overhead cam’d V10 behemoth, that doesn’t “even” have variable timing on the exhaust side. Yet still pumps out 680 hp and 640 ft lbs of naturally bad-ass-pirated goodness. Oh, and she weighs 2855 lbs, so she’s svelte given her size and power. She also has some of the sexiest lines ever penned on a race car. For the slammed-happy among us, she is properly “stanced” – but in a useful and effective way. And she revs as loudly as a woman scorned.

As far as I can tell, only 1 of these will be run at LeMans this year. Corvette will have a pair of the new C7.R. It will be interesting to see the 2 heavyweights duke it out, though disappointing that more American teams aren’t represented.
